Celebrating and supporting our black students and their bright futures.

What is Black Futures?

Black Futures is a continuation of the work that goes into celebrating and reflecting on Black culture during Black History Month. We recognise that the Black experience is not limited to one month each year, and have made a commitment to work year-round to better represent our Black students and staff. It is a year-long program of events, resources and campaigns to help create a more equal future for everyone.

Black-Owned Business Marketplace

We love Nottingham and we love supporting local independent businesses. Black business owners are often under-represented, and we want to help spread the word about the great ones we have here in Nottingham, which is why we’ve created a marketplace of local independent black-owned businesses.

Take a look at our Black-Owned Business Marketplace.

Our Commitment

NTSU recognises that it needs to do more to better support its Black students, staff and local community.

NTSU commits to:

  • Recruiting more Black staff: addressing the lack of staff diversity by implementing a new recruitment policy
  • Actively campaigning to reduce the Black Awarding Gap at NTU
  • Supporting local Black businesses through an online market
  • Raising the level of education around race and anti-racist practice by providing workshops and activities for students on campus
  • Campaigning for the University to create a better reporting system for on-campus incidents of racism
