What I'm working on

  • Successfully secured a price freeze on student bus pass saving you money. Also helped NCT implement a new 50 and 100 day bus pass option that is more affordable saving students over £60 and £135 respectively on both options. Additionally, buses are running more frequently meaning no queues and long wait times plus more space on buses to ensure COVID-secure travel.
  • Despite major reductions in available study space due to COVID-19 I have so far successfully worked to allow for multiple library bookings, unrestricted study space you can turn up and use when you wish and ensured NTSU spaces are available for you to use as self-directed study space. This all means there has been more than enough space to meet demand so everyone has a suitable study space on campus.
  • Successfully lead on the most ambitious and best freshers’ week in the UK. This included overhauling the entire Freshers’ team training to make it suitable for 2020. Highlights also included an in-person COVID-Secure Freshers’ fair (one of the only in the country) and 100s of amazing in-person COVID-Secure entertainment events. Finally, achieved another manifesto promise with free tops for Freshers’ team members via a deposit system.
  • Led on the design and distribution of NTSU Student experience survey. Completed by over 700 students with direct targeted support offered to over 400 students and major changes made by NTU based on findings. Changes include: Increased wellbeing and welfare support, more in-person community activities, extended study space booking and more to come.
  • Planned, and delivered a national virtual sustainability climate summit in collaboration with NTU Sustainability.
  • Secured free car parking for Students at Clifton and Brack until 31st December and parking permit refunds saving students over thousands of pounds.
  • Working with VP Education to ensure NTU are providing a high quality teaching and learning experience for students including the library offering. Work so far has included extending study bookings, unrestricted space, work to increase timetabled sessions and work towards supporting students with assessments in term two and three.
  • Working with the Exec team and staff on Black History month and year round celebrations on ‘Black Futures 365’ - celebrating and supporting our black students including workshops and panel discussions.
  • Supporting our VP Community and Welfare to support our students mental health including taking part in Movember, and providing support for students isolating and feeling lonely this year with pastoral support in our study spaces and contacting over 400 students with support and guidance.
  • Working on numerous projects around social mobility to give all students the best chance at success at a time where COVID-19 may have a negative impact on attainment. Work includes: Working with the Office for Students on access and participation plans, supporting NTU reviewing success for all plans. Finally, I am leading NTSU’s work on the race equality charter.
  • Engaged in productive conversations with NTU around an improved, more affordable offering for graduating students from the 2020 and 2021 cohorts. This work is on-going.
  • Working with the exec including VP Education on successfully increasing library bookings and study space, VP opportunities on society events and feeding the homeless and VP Community and welfare with Movember, mental health campaigns and I am now a trained consent facilitator.
