Sexual Violence Awareness Week: Let’s Talk About Sex

Wednesday 21-01-2026 - 12:06

Sexual Violence Awareness Week is an important opportunity to raise awareness, challenge harmful norms, and create open, supportive spaces for conversation. This year, our theme is “Let’s Talk About Sex.”

About the Week

By encouraging honest and inclusive dialogue, this theme allows us to explore vital topics such as sexual violence, consent, sexual health, and wellbeing. Talking about sex openly helps break down stigma, empowers individuals with knowledge, and supports safer, healthier relationships across our community.

Throughout the week, we’ll be hosting a range of events across our campuses and in the city, offering opportunities to learn, engage, access support, and take part in meaningful conversations. Below is the full schedule of events taking place during Sexual Violence Awareness Week.

Event Schedule

Tuesday 3rd February

Let’s Talk About Sex at City SU (11am – 3pm)

Join us at Nottingham City Students’ Union City Campus for a day of stalls and conversations focused on sexual health, wellbeing, and consent. You’ll be able to access resources, speak to support services, and take part in open discussions in a welcoming environment, as well as our free STI testing on offer!

HealthyNTU Fries for FRIES (2:30pm – 4:30pm)

HealthyNTU will be hosting their popular Fries for FRIES session. We use the FRIES acronym for checking consent. All consent must be: Freely given, Reversible, Informed, Enthusiastic and Specific. What better way to remember this than a free portion of fries.

Film Screening: Bombshell at Savoy Cinema (4pm)

As part of Sexual Violence Awareness Week, NTSU is hosting a free film screening of Bombshell (2019) at the Savoy Cinema.

Based on the real accounts of women at Fox News who exposed CEO Roger Ailes for sexual harassment, the film follows Gretchen Carlson, Megyn Kelly, and others as they challenge a culture of abuse and silence. Starring Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Margot Robbie, Bombshell is a powerful exploration of power, courage, and accountability.

Get Involved

Sexual Violence Awareness Week is about learning, listening, and standing together. Whether you attend one event or the whole week, we encourage everyone to get involved, start conversations, and access the support and information available.

Support

We know that this topic can be difficult for many. For help and advice, our Sexual Violence Support Service can provide guidance to any student who has experienced harm.

Colleagues, students, and visitors can report incidents of sexual misconduct, harassment, bullying, discrimination or hate crime through Report + Support. This will allow us to provide help, investigate swiftly and take action as appropriate.
