Description

This society is inactive and has fallen into restart. If you would like to restart this society, you can do so here.

Salaam students! We are NTU Students for Palestine Society. Humanity is our number one priority, and we welcome ALL students who stand with justice.

Aims

1. Celebrate Palestinian Culture and History

2. Create a society at NTU that represents Palestinian Students

3. Bringing together Palestinian students at NTU and non-Palestinian students who wish to learn more about Palestinian culture and traditions.

4. Fundraising and hosting relevant events

Strategy

Donate and advocate! We aim to encourage students to research and spread awareness about the people of Gaza and the West Bank and to share links to charities who are on the ground in Gaza.

Decolonise and recognise reality. The best way to do this is to read and learn about Islam and to give dawah (invite people to Islam). There is no compulsion in religion so this is not about getting people to become Muslims, rather, it is to educate people and clarify any misinformation as we can see the dangers of misinformation; especially what happened in Southport over the summer. As students, we need to learn about Islam and spread the Message of Islam and nip Islamophobia and racism in the bud! Overwhelmingly, the majority of people, kids, oppressed in Gaza are Muslims. Over 16,700 children have been killed in Gaza. There is no justification for this amount of bloodshed. The least thing we can do is know what they know. The people of Gaza have the Qur’an in their hearts. That is how they can take this extreme level of pain and unfairness on the chin due to their strong faith. That is why we want this society to be based on Islamic principles to not only respect the sacred place of Palestine which holds Masjid Al Aqsa, a beloved holy site for Muslims, but also pay our respects to the people who are experiencing increased bombings, brutality, and misinformation regarding their community. Having a basic understanding of Islam whether you are a Muslim or non-Muslim is vital as you will decolonise and debunk the systematic ways in which we have all been brought up in. We will be able to gain a better understanding of history, political affairs, and the Muslim world which holds around 25% of the globe and we will have a better understanding and communication with fellow BAME and Muslim students. This society says, “NO to Islamophobia, NO to racism, and NO to genocide!”

Networking. We want to embrace the unique skill set that all students have to offer. To make a positive impact, we need to work collaboratively. Please feel free to reach out whenever and tell us what you can bring to help the society and raise funds for Gaza. Whether that is filming to help us with our socials, research, or brainstorming fundraising ideas, no skill is too small and all steps and intentions to help humanity are valuable.

Events

We are planning various fundraising events; all donations will go directly to Medical Aid for Palestinians. Our event ranges from film screenings to poetry and book clubs, Arabic classes, Palestinian art Tatreez design workshops, and much more.
