Mandate all Nottinghamshire-based NTSU Societies to hold events at ALL Nottinghamshire campuses, in other words, all campuses except Confetti London
The Student Union has a wide variety of societies available, from academic subject-based to faith, hobby/ pastime, and some non–academic educational societies.
Most of these societies are based on either City or Clifton campuses, regularly holding their sessions or events to cater to students based at these campuses. Only a few societies choose to hold sessions or events that accommodate students based on the satellite campuses: Brackenhurst, Confetti, and Mansfield.
The lack of society activity on satellite campuses is currently not inclusive and does not foster diverse communities on those campuses.
The NTSU mission statement is to “empower students to make NTU the best academic and personal experience for themselves and others” and has a vision of “diverse communities” and values, including “student-led and inclusive”.
The Union should mandate that all Nottinghamshire-based societies include all Nottinghamshire campuses and, where necessary, support this by removing barriers where organisational and budgetary capacities permit.
This involvement could come from individual society-organised tasters, Give It A Go (GIAG) sessions, introductory sessions, or participation in regular “society showcase” events held at the satellite campuses during the day or early evening.
Each society should be mandated to hold a minimum of one session at each Nottinghamshire-based campus per year between September and February.
To further strengthen the mandate, societies could face sanctions, including reduced access to grant funding for their society or exclusion from nomination (or award) of the NTSU Inclusivity Award.
